Sixth & I

Harmonizing History, Culture, and Community

Sixth & I is a totally unique center for arts, entertainment, ideas, and Jewish life located in the heart of Washington, DC. Housed within a beautifully revitalized 1908 historic synagogue, they serve as a multi-denominational, non-membership spiritual home and a premier cultural venue. On any given night, their sanctuary might host a sold-out indie rock concert, a thought-provoking talk by a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, or a dynamic Shabbat dinner tailored for young professionals. They inspire meaningful lives through an unexpected mix of experiences that embrace the diverse identities of their community.

The Opportunity

Sixth & I brings together an extraordinary range of experiences under one historic roof, and that richness deserved a digital home as vibrant and welcoming as the venue itself. With so much to offer across culture and spiritual life, the goal was to make every visitor’s path to discovery feel effortless. We set out to build a website that guided visitors to exactly what they were looking for, all while telling the broader story of the Sixth & I experience.

The Storify Approach

At Storify Agency, we know that clarity is what keeps an audience engaged. We set out to build a website that guided visitors intuitively to exactly what they were looking for, all while telling the broader story of the Sixth & I experience.

  • A Story-Driven UX/UI Strategy: We mapped the site architecture to celebrate their unexpected convergence of culture and spirituality. We created clear and intuitive navigation pathways for “Arts & Entertainment” and “Jewish Life” while keeping the organization feeling connected and whole. The messaging focuses on discovery and connection, inviting users to explore the full spectrum of what the venue has to offer.

  • Visualizing the Brand: To honor their stunning Romanesque architecture and famous domed ceiling while appealing to a modern audience, we struck a visual balance. We paired rich, atmospheric photography of their historic sanctuary with clean, contemporary design elements, bold typography, and vibrant colors. This design choice beautifully mirrors their mission of bringing fresh, modern ideas into a historic space.

  • Custom Web Development: As a venue hosting hundreds of high-profile events a year, Sixth & I needed a seriously robust backend, and we built one to match. We developed a custom, fast-loading architecture with a highly intuitive event calendar. The site features dynamic filtering so users can easily sort by concerts, talks, podcasts, or religious services. We also integrated a streamlined ticketing system to ensure a frictionless checkout experience, even when thousands of fans are rushing to buy tickets for a marquee speaker.

The Results

Together, we transformed Sixth & I’s online presence into a dynamic, easy-to-use platform that truly reflects the magic of stepping through their historic doors.

  • Narrative Alignment: The new website perfectly captures their dual identity. It tells the story of an inclusive, multi-faceted community hub where pop culture and spirituality peacefully coexist.

  • Elevated User Experience: Our intuitive event filtering and streamlined navigation made ticket buying effortless, resulting in a smooth journey from discovering an event to taking a seat in the pews.

  • Future-Proof Foundation: With a scalable, custom-developed backend, the Sixth & I team can easily manage their packed event roster, update podcast episodes, and continue growing their community without technical bottlenecks.
